In this guide we will go over the Curve Fever tournaments.
What they are about, how to join them and how to make sure you can have a great time.

:trophy: About

Tournaments are hosted by moderators and organized by our tournament moderator @Line.
Usually there will be one tournament each month.
The tournament organizer will try and make each tournament a little bit different.
Different brackets, different gamemodes, teams/no-teams, power limitations and more.
Therefore it’s important that you read the tournament announcement post carefully before signing up.

The basics of a tournament is just that you play in brackets against other players.
There will always be multiple rounds and each round a certain amount of players will drop out.
In the end there will be a final for the remaining players and the winning players will get a reward. :trophy:
But again, the specifics are different for each tournament so make sure to read the tournament announcement post.

There is currently no automated system for tournaments which means that the moderators will create a schedule, put your name on it and update it throughout the tournament with the results.
More about this below in the instructions because you also take a part in this.

:trophy: How it works

If all of that sounds great then here all the information and instructions how to join.
Make sure to read it carefully because if you make a mistake you could be kicked out of the tournament or even get banned from upcoming tournament(s).

:large_blue_diamond: Discord

For the signup process we’ve created a bot on Discord.
This means you must be on our Discord server to partcipate in tournaments.

The moderators will also use Discord to communicate during the tournament.
discord.curvefever.pro

Make sure to join and keep an eye on the tournament channels!

  • #tournament-announcements - In this channel you can find all useful information.
  • #tournaments - In this channel you can chat about tournaments and ask questions.
  • #tournament-results - In this channel you post the results of matches, more about that later.

To interact with the bot you can go to the #bot or #tournaments channel.
You can use any of the commands listed below.
You can also talk to the bot directly in a private message.

:large_blue_diamond: Tournaments

When the moderators organize a tournament it will be announced in the following places.

  • A forum post will be created
  • A message will be announced in the #tournament-announcements Discord channel.
  • Most of the times a banner will be placed in the game.

Each tournament has a unique identifier that is used in the Discord bot.
Usually the name will be something like <month><year> such as april19.
Most interactions with the bot will work without using the reference but if needed you can find the list of tournament and their references in the tournament list.
Use the command: !tours

You can also get the details of a tournament.
If you leave out the tournament identifier it will display the first upcoming tournament, same as all other tournament commands.
Use the command: !tour [tour]

:information_source: NOTE: All tournament times are usually displayed in UTC. (GMT +1)
On the forum it will show the local time in the agenda & calendar.
If the time shows GMT+1 or UTC make sure to convert it to local time yourself!
Use a converter and fill in Amsterdam or UTC.

:large_blue_diamond: Signing up

After a tournament has been announced you can sign up for the tournament.
Once more, make sure to carefully read the announcement post with all the details!

To sign up you can use the signup command.
!signup <tour> <username>
The username must be your own CF username.

:warning: NOTE: It is not allowed to sign up other users, this will get you :x: banned from Discord.

After successfully using the signup command you will be asked to confirm some things.
Carefully read the messages and then confirm by using the checkboxes.
Most importantly verify that the displayed user is your account.
Secondly verify that the displayed tournament is the tournament you want to sign up for.
And last but not least you must accept the terms and conditions.

By accepting the terms you also give us permissions to send you reminder emails.
The emails will be sent to the email address linked to the account that was signed up.

You can only sign up one account per tournament!

:large_blue_diamond: Signing out

If you have signed up for a tournament but you can not be there you can sign out at any time.
Use the command: !signout [tour]

You can always sign up again but you will be placed on the end of the list again.

:large_blue_diamond: Confirming your attendance

This is the most important step before playing the tournament.
One hour before the tournament starts you will receive a message on Discord from the bot.
The bot will ask you to confirm your attendance.
You get 45 minutes to do so because 15 minutes before the tournament starts the sign ups close and the schedule will be made.

:warning: NOTE: If you do not confirm your attendance in time you will be automatically signed out of the tournament! This means you will not be put on the schedule and you can not play.

:warning: NOTE: If you do confirm your attendance you must show up!
If you fail to show up you will be :x: banned from the next tournament.
Doing so consecutive times will get you :x: banned from all future tournaments!

:large_blue_diamond: Team Tournaments

For team tournaments you can use the !team commands. After signing up for a tournament you can either join a public team or create your own team. When creating a team you will be the team leader and can manage the team.

Teams are public by default meaning that anyone can join the team. However, you can also make the team private meaning that only users that are invited can join the team.

To create a team use !team create {team} [tour].
To join an existing team use !team join {team} [tour].

:warning: NOTE: Incomplete teams might not be able to participate in the tournament!

:warning: NOTE: If it’s a team tournament and you are not in a team you can not play even if you confirm your attendance!

:warning: NOTE: Team members can no longer be kicked 3 hours before the tournament starts!

:large_blue_diamond: Schedule

After the sign ups are closed the final list of participants is created.
Moderators will then get to work and quickly make the tournament schedule.
This usually takes around 15 minutes and then the schedule will be announced when the tournament starts.

The schedule is made in a Google Spreadsheet and the link will be posted on Discord.
Inside the spreadsheet you can find the latest information and further instructions.
Use the search functionality (CTRL + F or CMD + F) to find your username on the schedule.

On the schedule you will also find the starting times of each round.

:large_blue_diamond: Playing in the tournament

Once the tournament has started it’s time to play.
Tournaments are played in the custom games.

One of the players in each group must create a room as described in the schedule.
Search the lobby if the room exists, if not create the room.
Check the tournament announcement and schedule for the required room settings and rules!

When it’s time to start the round you may start the round.

All players in the room?
-> Ready up and start!
Not all players in the room?
-> Wait up to 3 minutes and then start!

After the match has ended the winner of the round must post the results on Discord.
This should be done in the #tournament-results channel.
Use the command: !lastmatch <username> where username is your username.
You may also take a screenshot of the final scoreboard and post that in the results channel.

If you’re one of the players also keep an eye on Discord and make sure the winner of your game posted the results but avoid posting duplicate results.

If you were the only player that showed up you don’t have to play a match obviously.
However, you must take a screenshot of you being in the room and also post it in the results so you will advance to the next round.

:large_blue_diamond: After the tournament

After the tournament has ended the moderators will usually publish a video of the finals.
The rewards will be handed out to the winners within a few work days (mo-fr).

:trophy: Notes

Here the key notes and most important things regarding tournaments.
This is not a TLDR, make sure to read the information above!

  • Always show up in time otherwise you get eliminated.
  • Never sign up other players!
  • Be online on Discord during the tournament to stay up to date.
  • Confirm your attendance otherwise you get signed out before the schedule is made.
  • Tournament times might not always be 100% accurate, it’s a manual process so please keep this in mind and stay nice towards the organizing moderators.
  • Do not post anything other than results in the tournament results Discord channel.
  • The organizing moderators and other staff members always have the final say.
  • Tournaments can be quite hectic, help each other out and refer to this guide for people that may have questions. (forum.curvefever.pro/tournaments)
  • The game can have bugs some times, this can happen to anyone and therefore there will be no compensation for bugs or lag and there will almost never be a rematch.
  • Contact me (@Rojoss) with issues or questions regarding the Discord bot.
